DIY flood work brought to halt

A Suffolk pensioner who took it upon himself to build his own flood defences has seen his efforts 'damned' by the local council.

Peter Boggis, 72, has spent \#50,000 to protect not only his own property but also nine others on the coast at Easton Bevans near Southwold, moving earth to shore up an eroding cliff-face.

As part of the work, Mr Boggis needs to bring 24,000 tons of clay to secure the beach beneath the cliff, but now the local council has stepped in.
