ABI warns of NHS costs spiral

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has claimed that businesses will face higher insurance costs as a result of Government plans for the NHS to recover the cost of treating victims of workplace accidents.

The ABI estimates that the plans will push up the cost of employers' liability insurance (EL) for the average business by 5%. This comes at a time when EL premiums are currently rising by between 10 -15% a year, largely due to the increasing cost of personal injury claims.
